Ray and Pam White split their time between their home in Boulder City (winter) and a home near Colorado Springs, CO (summer), taking the best advantage of what each region has to offer. They enjoy being outdoors and staying active, so they began researching e-bikes in Spring 2023. After they made their purchases, they began touring the town and neighboring areas by e-bike! Raky had also become a member of a local hiking group and thought that an e-bike group based on a similar premise would be successful here.
Ray, a software company owner, set up an event on Facebook and distributed it to some of the Boulder City neighborhood groups online. People showed interest and Boulder City E-bike Club was formed! It’s an informal group. There are no dues, and they don’t have club officers. What they all share though is a desire to get out and get some exercise while checking out some of the trails and paths in Boulder City, Henderson, and beyond! Recently, the group traveled from the River Mountain Trailhead parking lot (near St Jude’s Ranch for Children) and rode to El Torito Mexican Restaurant. They stopped for a bite to eat and then pedaled back to Boulder City. It was a nice time to spend with new friends and enjoy the mild winter we’ve been enjoying.
Becoming a member of the club is simple: just bring your bike and show up! They do a few rides per month at different times and days. For example, this morning they will be cruising along the new museum access road along Boulder City Parkway. The road opened to traffic recenty. May 9-11 the group plans to travel to the Grand Canyon to ride some of the scenic byways there. They’ve biked Zion National Park in Utah and in the Big Bear Lake area of California. Those are longer, two-day events involving overnight stays at their destination.
Pam, a social media manager, advises newbies to get out and give e-bikes a try. She notes that she and Ray have made some great friends while enjoying their hobby. Getting off the couch and doing something active is beneficial to physical and mental well-being. Sometimes new riders are frightened or timid, but that quickly changes with every mile under their belt.
One of the great things about the bike trail system in Boulder City and Henderson, is that a majority of the bike lanes are separated from vehicular traffic, making them safer,
