
The State of Nevada will be providing a special Christmas tree to decorate the US Capitol for the upcoming holiday season. The tree will be selected from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nye County. Along with the honor of having a Nevada tree for the first time ChristmasOrnaments on the Capitol lawn, Nevadans are also being asked to provide handcrafted ornaments to decorate it. Approximately 10,000 decorations are needed. Approximately 3500 ornaments will be used to decorated the tree, and the remaining ornaments will be used to decorate other, smaller trees in the US Capitol. Here are the guidelines provided by the US Forest Service. All of the ornaments should be made from natural, recyclable or repurposed material; no sharp objects; no commercial logos; cannot be divisive or offensive.
For the outdoor Christmas tree itself:
- Brightly-colored
- Nine to twelve inches in size
- Weatherproof (capable of withstanding wind, rain and snow).
For the indoor trees:
- Brightly-colored
- Four to ten inches in size
- Don’t need to be waterproof

- Uniquely Nevada — capture the spirit of “Home Means Nevada”
- Iconic landscapes and special places in Nevada
- Multiple use and how Nevadans enjoy their public lands
- The wild plants, animals, and geology of Nevada
- Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl
