Happy Mother's Day to the Goddesses

No doubt you've passed this sculpture many times since it was installed more than a decade ago. It's called Rag Town Goddess and it was created by Sandra Messina. The plaque next to the sculpture explains more about her but did you ever stop to think about all the women who accompanied their husbands out west to build Hoover Dam? What primitive conditions they had to work with just to complete daily tasks we take for granted like cooking, cleaning, and yes, laundry and without all the modern conveniences we enjoy like air conditioning for an example. These women ran boarding houses, taught children, opened businesses, started libraries, formed churches and clubs from the ground up! Let's take a moment today and be thankful for these goddesses who came before us and count our many blessings!
