Like most small towns, Boulder City has certain points of interest that invoke a lot of civic pride. One of those spots is the letters “BC” near Bootleg Canyon. The last time the letters were painted was over a decade ago and not only has the paint faded away, plants have grown up and around the landmark, making it even more difficult to see.
What began as a online conversation several months ago morphed into an informal meeting of local Boulder City High School alumni and has taken form. Now a community work day has been scheduled for Saturday, March 23 beginning at 8:00AM. To reach the site, volunteers are asked to meet at the Bootleg Canyon Mountain Bike Trail parking area (near the restrooms). The group will proceed along the hiking trail up to the site where brush will be cleared first, and then the boulders that form the letters will be reset and repositioned before being painted.
Volunteers are asked to bring old mops and 5-gallon buckets for the project. The paint has been donated by a local resident. Once the painting is completed, the group will clean up the site and pack out the materials they used to repaint the letters.
If you plan to assist, please wear old, but sturdy, shoes, and old clothes that you won’t mind getting paint on. It would also be a good idea to wear sun protection and bring plenty of water to drink. We can’t wait to see this when it’s done!
