Historic Preservation Month, May, is fast approaching! The City is currently accepting nominations for the annual Historic Preservation Award. This is the thirteenth anniversary of the award, which highlights notable areas within the City’s Historic District. Links to last year’s winner can be found by clicking below:
2022 Winner: The McIntyre Residence at 421 Birch Street
To qualify for the award, the property must be within the city’s historic district and “maintain and enhance the architectural, historical, and cultural heritage of Boulder City”. Additionally, the award will be given to the property that best meets the following criteria:
- The exterior of the building/property, as visible from the street
- The property or feature is open to residential, commercial, institutional, religious, parks, landscapes, streetscapes, etc.
- The building/property can include a historically appropriate remodel, addition, or new construction, or for examples of preservation or historical restoration
- The award is not based on the number of nominations for the property
The Historic Preservation Committee will review the nominations submitted and select the awardee in April. As such, all nominations must be submitted through Sunday, April 9, 2023. The award recipient(s) will receive a plaque and certificate from the Historic Preservation Committee and City Council in May. They will also be recognized with video broadcast on BCTV that will be posted to the City’s website and social media accounts during May.
Planning for Boulder City’s Historic Preservation Day is currently underway. The date selected is Saturday, May 13, 2023.
