Honoring Boulder City’s History – The Clampers

Clamper's Honoring BC's History Boulder City, Nevada

How often have you stopped and looked at these signs around our area, and really read them?

And when you do, notice the Dedication on the bottom, “By the Queho Posse Chapter E Clampus Vitus”. Have you ever wondered who they are?

Commonly known as the Clampers, this fraternal organization has been around a long time. Nationally the organization has some 700,000 members and been in existence since sometime around the 1840’s.

It took some twists and turns over the years, with a wide and varied story too lengthy for us to tell, but our local chapter of the Queho Posse has been with us since 1996.

In our immediate area, they’ve created 6 different historical plaques (like the one you see above) in Boulder City, and another that is at Railroad Pass. We thought it would be interesting to do a story on each, and wanted to learn more about this…well….colorful group of historians.

So, in reaching out to a few friends of ours we had the privilege to sit down with one of the most recognizable members locally – Mark Hall Patton – who many of you may know as the Museum Administrator for the Clark County Museum and also from the TV show ‘Pawn Stars’.

We learned a lot in sitting down with him – the man truly is a walking historical library. But in learning more about the Clampers, we learned that while they love history, they love a laugh just as much (or more…).

We’re creating a series of articles, we’ll do one for each plaque, beginning with this one erected at Bicentennial Park in Boulder City.

Stay tuned where we’ll share a bit of info for you on each of the other plaques, and you’ll learn more about the Clampers too in the coming weeks. We hope you’ll enjoy!
