UPDATE: WE WON! On September 4th on the HGTV show our lovely dome house was crowned this year’s Ugliest House Award!
Boulder City is home to some unique architecture. Whether it’s the Dam Houses that line the tree streets, or the bunglalows that populate the Avenues, to the Lewis Homes that form the Girl Street and Horse Street neighborhoods, to the Pirate House down on the lakeside, Boulder City has a little something for everyone, when it comes to housing styles.
Maybe it isn’t all McMansions and midcentury though. Maybe we have a few duds. Is it possible? Apparently it is! A home right here in Boulder City will be featured on the HGTV series Ugliest House in America, hosted by the incredibly funny and somewhat sympathetic comedian, Retta, as she travels the country looking for homes only an owner could love, or possibly hate! We love the show and Retta is a scream as she analyzes the properties, along with designer Alison Victoria. The two look over the available stock and in the course of one horrifying season, manage to select the “winner”, that is, the owner of the ugliest house in America and recipient of a $150,000 makeover.
A little bird has told us that the cast and crew of the series recently made a visit to Boulder City to film an episode that airs on Thursday, August 31 at 11:30AM (there are reruns later in the evening for those who miss the this showing). The crowning of the ugliest follows on Monday, September 4 at 8:00PM. All shows are on the HGTV network (Cox Communication: Channel 56/Directv: Channel 229/Dish: Channel 112) so be sure to tune in to see if the Boulder City house “wins”.
