Isabella Smith is, in many ways, a typical little girl. She loves her family, pizza is her favorite food, and she’s good at math. But she’s also a world champion BMX racer and mentor to other little girls at the wee age of 9! We caught up with her recently to find out more about her and her extraordinary racing career. She’s a sweet, intelligent girl, but one thing that really stands out about her is her immense drive to be the best at what she does.
Isabella began racing when she was only 3. BMX is in her family’s blood though. Her father, Alex, and uncle, Eric, were both mountain bike racers. Isabella was also influenced by some neighborhood friends who were already racing at the Boulder City BMX track at Veterans Memorial Park. She began racing in competitions across the United States when she was about 5.
Her favorite thing to do, of course, is ride, and she spends hours at the track, sometimes practicing up to three times a day when preparing for a competition. She trains six days a week. Her work ethic is incredible, especially in someone so young. She’s always been this way, according to her mother, Anabel. She’s always driven to succeed, especially on the track. You’ll find her at Boulder City BMX every Friday, without fail, unless she’s at a competition.
There are other young girls who are just learning the sport, and Isabella takes them under her wing and shows them ropes. She’s generous with her time and knowledge and has won admiration from her fellow racers for her kind spirit. Her words of advice to others interested in the sport is to find a good coach and practice a lot. She also told us that she encourages anyone to do stuff they like and keep going with it. Passion is everything to this girl!
Isabella is a member of Impact BMX and is coached by Makieva Hopson. The team is looking for additional sponsors to assist Isabella with her competitions. Racing is an expensive sport because there’s a great deal of travel involved. If you’d like to help support Isabella’s dreams, you can contact her mother, Anabel, by clicking HERE.
As far as her future plans are concerned, Isabella wants to be a professional BMX rider and compete in the Olympics one day. We don’t doubt her one bit!! Check out her Instagram HERE and keep up with her career.
