Jack-Thomas Wold, a young local Boulder City man, was recently selected in the twelfth round of the Major League Baseball amateur player draft held this week. Jack is a resident of Boulder City and grew up here. His baseball career began at age five as a member of the Boulder City Little League. His skills were quickly apparent and he was a frequent member of the league’s All Star teams. As he grew, it became apparent that he would benefit from more competitive play so he joined a series of club and travel baseball teams, playing in tournaments all over the country.
When it came time for high school, the Wold family moved to Henderson so that Jack could play at Basic Academy High School. This move was necessary so that he could continue his high level of play and remain on the radar of college and professional scouts. He lettered in varsity baseball all four years and helped the Basic Wolves to back-to-back Nevada 4A Championships. As a senior, he received a number of personal awards:
- 2016-2017 American Family Insurance All-USA Nevada
- Las Vegas Review-Journal Best of Nevada Preps
- All Southern Nevada First Team
- All Sunrise Region First Team
Additionally he was also named All Sunrise Region Player of the year in 2017. That year he hit .460 with 10 home runs, 13 doubles, had 45 RBI and scored 36 runs during the season. He also led the Basic American Legion team to the 2017 American Legion state, region and national tournament titles.
The move paid off when he was offered a full ride scholarship to play baseball at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. “They invested in me,” said Jack, “and I was thankful for the opportunity.” The UNLV baseball program has produced players like Cecil Fielder, Matt Williams, Todd and Mel Stottlemyre, Jr., Brian Boehringer and Ryan Braun. He was named Mountain West Player of the Week multiple times. You can read more about his collegiate career HERE.
Jack wanted to thank all of his coaches over the year for their education and support. “I’m thankful for my family, especially, for their sacrifices to help me achieve my dreams,” Jack said. He has already made his way to Florida to begin his career in the Mets organization at mini camp. His mother grew up in New York as a Mets fan so when he got the call, he was especially excited to hear his name called. He spent draft night with family and friends, waiting to hear his name called.
Jack-Thomas is the son of Mike and Melissa Wold. He has two siblings: an older brother, Tayler and a younger sister, Bre. His girlfriend is Jordan Moorhead. They reside in Boulder City. Here’s to a long, healthy and productive career for the young man!!!
