Knights of Pythias Offer Community Support

KnightsOfPythias1.jpgKnightsOfPythias2.jpg
The Order of the Knights of Pythias is based upon the principle of the eternal friendship of the Greek legend of Damon and Pythias. In the ancient tale, Pythias chose to take his friend's place in prison, so that Damon could visit his family one last time. The mythology forms the basis for the group, with founding principles of faith, charity, and benevolence. Boulder City has its own historic Knights of Pythias lodge and the membership continues those traditions today. In 1939, the local Knights of Pythias opened a lodge here in Boulder City. Many of the most prominent members of the community were also members of the Knights. They donated their time and financial resources to many community organizations and events. The modern Boulder City Lodge does the same. They make frequent financial contributions to St Jude's Ranch for Children, Boulder City High School, the Boulder City Animal Shelter, and more deserving organizations. Locally, the group applies its efforts to:
  • Support veterans, children, and local initiatives
  • Host community events and fundraisers
  • Offer a brotherhood of like-minded individuals
  • Maintain a legacy of service, unity, and integrity

You will also see the Knights in action at local parades, the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce Wine Walks, and other local events throughout the community. The lodge is located at 1320 Wyoming Street. This location is part of the original site used back in 1939, when the group's charter was obtained. As part of their commitment to improving local communities, their mission includes the following principles:

  • To be good citizens, neighbors, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers
  • To protect the weak, aid the suffering, and serve with compassion
  • To promote peace through understanding
This is the creed that members agree to adhere to:
We believe in peace through understanding, unity in diversity, and service to mankind. A Pythian places family and community first and lives with kindness, tolerance, and civic engagement.
The Knights of Pythias were founded by Justus Henry Rathbone and was the first fraternal organization to be officially chartered by Congress in 1864, following President Abraham Lincoln's endorsement of the group. They boast several notable figures in their membership, including Presidents William McKinley, Warren G Harding, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The membership in the Knights of Pythias Clark County Lodge #96 is open to Boulder City men and woman in good community standing and there is a small annual dues attached to membership. To inquire about membership in the Boulder City Knights of Pythias, interested parties may contact Timethy J Phillips at (702) 743-4245. You can also learn more about the group at their website HERE. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month, with fellowship (typically a potluck) at 6:30PM, followed by a meeting at 7:00PM.
