Ever wonder where Lake Mead got its name? It’s the namesake of a one Elwood Mead – most notably the head of the United States Bureau of Reclamation from 1924 until his death in 1936.
Although only in that position for 12 years, Mead oversaw the planning and execution of construction of the Grand Coulee, Owyhee and Boulder (renamed Hoover, of course) Dams, passing away a mere four months after the completion of Boulder/Hoover Dam.
So there you go — a history lesson for ya today, brilliantly disguised as a fun fact!! 🙂
