Lend A Hand of Boulder City has started offering a great new service to the community with its ‘respite care’ program. Here’s the info that they sent me about what the program is and does:
“Through a generous grant from the MGM Resorts Foundation, Lend A Hand of Boulder City is expanding its respite care services and we are looking for caregivers who are in need of respite care services.
Respite care is temporary relief or an occasional break given to a person who provides care for a loved one. Caregivers sometimes need time off to relax or to take care of other responsibilities. Respite can strengthen the ability of caregivers to continue to provide care in the home and allow the client to remain in independent living.
Respite can be most helpful for a caregiver before he or she becomes exhausted or overwhelmed with the responsibility of 24/7 caregiving.”
Lend A Hand uses in-home volunteers. Examples of the tasks that can be provided include companion care services such as reading, talking and playing cards, light meal preparation, reminder for medications, and walking. Lend A Hand operates on a donation basis … clients are not charged fees for services. Respite care from an in-home volunteer is used to provide a short break for the caregiver and can be provided up to four hours a day, one day a week. For more information, please call Patty at the Lend A Hand office at 702-294-2363.
