When the HGTV Flip or Flop Vegas stars reached out to our local tile, design and flooring store, M Tile & Design, they had no idea what a game-changer this would be for their business.
We sat down and talked with owner Michelle King and her right hand man Bill Witt to hear all about it. They recently moved from their former location (1400 Wyoming) down the street to 733 Nevada Way (next to Southwest Diner) and in the process nearly doubled their square footage to this gorgeous new showroom!
Didn’t know we had a flooring and design shop in town? Well we do! They specialize in flooring of all kinds, as well as designer, unique and hand painted artisan tiles that can be used in kitchens, bathrooms or anywhere in the home – just like that cool tile in the Flip or Flop house locally. They also do countertops now too.
The store opened just 3 years ago, when Michelle King relocated from Arizona where she had a thriving tile and stone store for 15 years, but decided to make a change and move here to Boulder City. Michelle says she grew up in England, where she originally fell in love with the centuries old tile and stone work that surrounded her. The hook was set and it’s been her passion ever since. She has a degree in Interior Design and has a wealth of knowledge, contacts and experience in both residential and commercial work alike.
They do a lot of commercial work in Las Vegas with the casinos, but emphasize that for us locals especially, they pride themselves on their personal service. She says you can check out tiles and bring them home to see how you like them. She says that they stay very competitive on their pricing – “think boutique service without paying boutique pricing”.
What they say they’d like us locals to understand is that if you have a project in your home that involves any type of flooring or wall covering, big or small, to check them out first rather than heading ‘over the hill’ to a Home Depot or similar store. They carry flooring of all kinds: wood, vinyl, cement, terracotta, ceramics, porcelain – pretty much anything you’d like in the way of hard surfaces. They also have a list of approved contractors, should you need one.
So how did the HGTV Flip or Flop in Boulder City episode affect them? Behind the scenes, what most of us don’t maybe realize is that companies often have to pay for exposure on these decorating shows. Aubrey and Bristol (the stars) sought out our local little tile store over on Wyoming and not only did they order a few specialty tiles from M Tile & Design, they brought their TV crew in to film! That’s HUGE says Bill Witt, as it really put them on the map. Because of that one show airing, they’ve had people call or come by their store from California, Arizona, all over the Vegas valley and even a lady visiting from North Carolina made a point to find them!
