Boulder City Parks & Rec says that pickleball has really taken off here in Boulder City … so much so that our local pickleball players and the Parks and Recreation Department are working together to resurface two outdoor pickleball courts at ABC Park.
To that end, they’re holding a Pickleball Tournament to raise funds for the resurfacing of the two pickleball courts at ABC Park and the winners will be qualified to play in the Pickleball National Team Championship that will be held in April over in Henderson.
The flyer is below for you — but first, I had to look up what exactly pickleball is and who plays it. Well, the USA Pickleball Association (Facebook Page Here) says it’s a sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, is played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net, and utilizes a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.
And as far as who plays it — while it’s a sport for all ages — the age breakdown among USAPA member is 6% for ages 39 and under, 24% for ages 40-59 and 70% for ages 60+. Huh, who knew?!
