Museum Celebrates Boulder City’s 90th Year with Exhibit

While the official “birth” of Boulder City didn’t occur until the 1960s, the town has existed since the early 1930s, when initial surveyors came in to observe and measure the area where Hoover Dam now sits. That’s ninety years on, and the Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum is recognizing this milestone, with a special rotating exhibit of curated items, called “Cheers to 90 Years”. This exhibit contains some of the artifacts collected from 1933 through the 1980s and will be on display until December 31, 2023.

If you’ve never been to the museum, located inside the Boulder Dam Hotel at 1305 Arizons Street, we strongly encourage you to go. Entry is free (although cash donations to the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association are accepted). During your self-guided tour, you will see all types of treasures on display from displays from the original construction of Hoover Dam, to the incorporation of the city, to the pioneering women and men who helped shape and create the beautiful city we call home. There’s also a screening room that shows a brief film about our town, which is very interesting as well.

From the museum’s website HERE:

The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum tells the story of the men and women who braved the desolation of the southern Nevada desert to build Hoover Dam and settle Boulder City.  Theirs is a story of American ambition, vision and grit.  Built during the Great Depression and as the Dust Bowl ravaged the American heartland, the engineering and construction marvel that is Hoover Dam also served as a beacon of hope — signaling a brighter future.

The museum is open to the public daily from 7:00AM to 7:00PM. School and special group tours are available by calling (702) 294-1988. Also, if you haven’t had an opportunity to check it out, the BCMHA Collections Hub is located HERE. You can see all kinds of archived materials with new items added all the time!! Be sure to stop by the museum soon.
