NWF Certifies New Wildlife Habitat In Boulder City
Local Residents Making A Difference To Protect Wildlife.
The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) announced that Jermiah and Nathanael and JadonPaul from KidsServe.com have successfully created an official Certified Wildlife Habitat site.
NWF celebrates the efforts of KidsServe.com on creating a garden space that improves habitat for birds, butterflies, frogs and other wildlife by providing essential elements needed by all wildlife – natural food sources, clean water, cover and places to raise young. The habitat has bat houses, a hummingbird feeder, bird nesting areas and provides native plants and water sources to attract wildlife.
“Providing a home for wildlife in our communities – whether it’s at home, or in schools businesses or parks – is the demonstration of a healthy and active eco-system. There is no more rewarding way to stay connected to nature right outside your door,” said David Mizejewski, naturalist with the National Wildlife Federation.“I enjoy watching nature and wanted to do my part to help,” said 20 year old Jermiah.
“Redesigning our yard to make it more inviting to wildlife not only gives me something to enjoy but also helps me to be greener and we enjoy more time outside.” said 14 year old Nathanael.
“I like helping feed the birds,” said 4 year old JadonPaul.
NWF’s Certified Wildlife Habitat program has been helping people take personal action on behalf of wildlife for more than 40 years. The program engages homeowners, businesses, schools, churches, parks and other institutions that want to make their communities wildlife friendly.
“The boys spend lots of time outdoors since they are home schooled. We are new to Boulder city and our yard wasn’t dynamic or exciting. Now, by adding native plants, hummingbird feeders, bird nesting areas, a bird bath, and a bat house, our yard is alive with wildlife we had not seen before,” said the boys’ mother Jenah Victor. “We are now consulting with Ms Cheryl at the Boulder City Community Gardens to create a plot sponsored by both KidsServe and the Emeril Lagasse Foundation for special needs families to enjoy.”
Congratulations to Jermiah, Nathanael, and JadonPaul on their remarkable efforts to create spaces for wildlife and receiving this prestigious designation!
