New Deputy Fire Chief Hired

New Deputy Fire Chief Boulder City, Nevada

Boulder City’s Fire Department gets a much needed extra set of hands this week, as they welcome their new Deputy Fire Chief, Greg Chesser.

He joins us with more than 34 years of experience in fire service and 20 years of that in management roles. He has an MBA in Public Administration, and has worked as a firefighter, training officer, assistant fire chief in prevention, assistant operations chief and as a fire chief for the USAF – so that’s quite a resume, we’d say!

You may remember that back in January, we welcome our new Fire Chief, William Grey, and he certainly didn’t get much of a ‘honeymoon period’ settling in, what with the COVID-19 pandemic kicking off in early March. They’ve pretty much been at a dead-run at our local FD since then. Chief Grey says, “I believe Deputy Chief Chesser will help Boulder City grow and develop our Reserve Firefighters program in the coming years. His experience and reputation for strong leadership and training skills will be extremely beneficial especially as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The position had already been approved as part of the current fiscal year budget, and was recently reviewed and the hiring appoved by the City Council at their meeting on June 23, 2020. The City’s office news release says:

The position helps the Department meet one of the strategic goals set in 2018, to Sustain a High Level of Public Safety Services. “Boulder City Fire Department prides itself on providing outstanding emergency medical, fire, and rescue services within a 208 square mile area for a population of approximately 16,000,” said Al Noyola, City Manager of Boulder City. “Having guidance from Deputy Chief Chesser and Chief Gray will lead our Department and firefighters to be effective and successful in serving our community.”

So, if you see our new Deputy Greg Chesser out and about, be sure to give him a warm Boulder City welcome!
