Lend a Hand of Boulder City is under new leadership, and you can feel the difference. Meet the new Executive Director, Kevin Abbot, pictured above with Sara Richner, Executive Assistant. Kevin has a lengthy experience working with non-profits and comes to us having spent 15 years building out the services at Opportunity Village. His presence has given our local Lend A Hand team a renewed focus and vision that is already making an impact.
If you don’t know, LAH has been around for 30+ years in Boulder City. They have specialized in respite care for the elderly and transportation to and from medical appointments.
They have now expanded their hours of operation to Monday – Friday from 9am to 5pm and are now able to provide transportation to anywhere a senior or citizen in need might wish to go for any reason in the local Southern Nevada area. So instead of limiting transportation to medical only, this now means seniors can use their services for non-medical errands as well. They have utilized technology in new ways to speed up the scheduling process, and Kevin says that even if they can’t directly provide transport they will connect the person to Silver Rider, who can.
They have increased the number of volunteers on staff by 23%! The also have a FREE Mobile Notary if someone is home bound but needs to have documents formally notarized. LAH has also long been known for it’s FREE lending of durable medical equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs.
Kevin has also created new partnerships in town between our various service providers. There are now regular meetings and coordination of efforts between Lend A Hand, the Senior Center of Boulder City, Emergency Aid, the Boulder City PD Volunteer force and their YANA programs, along with Jennifer Hedland and her efforts at the Boulder City Hospital. Kevin says his goal is that if someone walks through their door looking for assistance, that they never leave empty handed – something will be done to connect that person to the best resources to help them with their needs.
Clients are up 20% locally and they are working hard to be sure that folks can stay active and age in place safely in their homes. This organization is always looking for volunteers as well as donations so please visit their website HERE. If you have a loved one you are struggling to provide for, then please check out Lend A Hand to see if they can help.
