Here’s a new sign that popped up a few weeks ago at the entrance to Boulder City…okay – since it’s a concrete model of Hoover Dam…it took a little longer than just ‘popping up’. This is located just after Railroad Pass and before you get to the Searchlight exit, on the right hand side.
The words “Welcome to Historic Boulder City – Home of Hoover Dam” sure aren’t very visible though…and I wonder if they’re going to do any landscape around it? I’ll keep an eye on it and let ya know!
Update: Boulder City Community Development Director Brok Armantrout posted a comment on the Facebook page with a lot of great info for us…so I’m adding it here for ya:
The lettering is embossed into the concrete surface and will be painted black so that it will stand out. Solar powered flood lights will wash the sign from the bottom at night. Large landscape boulders will be placed on either side to frame the sign and the ground will be sprayed with hydroseed mix of native plants (per NDOT). These two signs have been in the works for the past 8 years – took that long for NDOT to approve the signs that another NDOT division approved through a grant. You may have noticed a common theme with recent projects in the City – our historic ties to Hoover Dam. For example, the new bus shelters that are under construction also tie to Hoover Dam and the dam bypass bridge.
