While we left town for a week, this crazy beautiful mural went up on the back side of the Western & Mexican Center store (415 Nevada Way) facing the Post Office!
We did some digging online and found that this is the latest mural in town painted by Oscar Garcia, who according to his web site has been a painter since his youth starting at age 10. We agree, he’s got some ‘mad skillz’, as you’ll see on his web site HERE.
We called the store, and spoke to Angelica Gomez-Moorhead, the daughter of the store owners. She says she saw his work over on the back of the Sands Motel recently, and they reached out to talk about doing the same thing on their store.
She says they gave him some ideas and photos, but as he walked around their place he was able to get their essence of what they wanted and their history, and then just ran with it! The project is done almost entirely by hand spray paint, and took Oscar 2 days of work to complete.
Angelica says, “Boulder City has been so good to us, we’ve been here for 54 years, and we wanted something that reflected who we were that could be shared with all of Boulder City. We hope it brings a smile to people’s faces when they see it.”
Smile indeed, my friends. Well done to the owners for finding Oscar, and we hope to see more of his work around town! Thank you!
