Last week in the Las Vegas Review Journal the news broke about plans for a 1.7 million sq. foot warehouse complex will be opened in the Eldorado Valley. You can read the full article HERE.
The land is owned by the city of Henderson after the annexation of 2,738 acres completed in 2022. The City of Boulder City owns a large majority of the land in the Eldorado Valley in part, we know, to limit growth or development of the area. According to the RJ article warehouse space in the area is in extremely high demand as our online shopping habits have solidified over the last several years. Other sites are also being pursued in Jean, NV for warehousing development.
The City’s Communications Manager, Lisa LaPlante says, “That land was annexed by the City of Henderson in 2022. We have an excellent relationship with Henderson’s leaders, and they have pledged to keep us informed of any projects planned on their property.” The bottom line is that given that this is now Henderson’s land, they can develop it any way they please.
We also reached out to Jill Lagan, the CEO of our Boulder City Chamber of Commerce, and her comments were, “viewing the inability to control what happens to that private land as a mistake someone made, would be in and of itself a mistake. Seize the opportunity to invite employees of any of the warehouses to live and spend their daily life as a new resident in Boulder City. Find out what types of jobs might be made available to our locals. Request owner/operators learn the value of what Boulder City could offer employees as well as why their company might want to support local non-profit efforts or school programs. Look for the opportunity. Generate a positive outcome from what some may see as a negative situation.”
She’s not wrong. We’re grateful that our city staff and chamber both have positive relationships with our Henderson counterparts. No doubt, our views of the Valley will change if this project advances as planned. The company has said they are looking to break ground on the project this summer. We will keep you posted with ongoing coverage as this project develops.
