Here’s what’s going on down at Lake Mead and around town this month!

National Night Out, Oct 1

Join rangers at the Boulder City Veterans Memorial Park, from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 1 for a night of family fun activities. Come and explore interactive displays of various National Park Service emergency response vehicles. National Night Out is a unique opportunity to foster police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

Trails Reopen, Oct 1

Goldstrike Canyon and White Rock Canyon/Arizona Hot Springs trails will re-open Oct. 1. The 5-mile roundtrip hike at Goldstrike Canyon requires rock scrambling and climbing. It leads to hot springs and the Colorado River. The area known as White Rock Canyon has multiple trails leading to the Arizona Hot Spring, Liberty Bell Arch and the Colorado River.

When hiking, visitors are reminded to be aware of changing weather conditions. The temperatures in the canyons can be 10-20 degrees warmer. Ranger Program: International Observe The Moon Night, Oct 5

Join rangers and a NASA Solar System Ambassador at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 5 at the Katherine Landing Amphitheater to learn about Earth’s very special satellite – the moon. Telescope viewing of the moon and far-away planets will follow from 8 to 9 p.m. For more information, call (928) 754-1005 ext. 7101.

BBSC Las Vegas Triathlon, Oct 5

Around 900 triathletes will race though Lake Mead National Recreation Area Oct. 5 for the BBSC Las Vegas Triathlon. The swim portion of the race takes place at Boulder Beach. Then, athletes will bike along Lakeshore and Northshore roads. They will finish with the run portion along the River Mountains Loop Trail near Boulder Beach. Visitors to the park may experience delays. During the race, the bicycle course is an open road. Please use caution when driving alongside cyclists. Cyclists are reminded that they must bike in single file on the roadways. For more information on this permitted event, visit https://www.bbsctri.com/lasvegastri.

Ranger Program: Camping 101, Oct 6

Join rangers at 2 p.m., Oct. 6 at the Laughlin Library to learn tips and tricks on how to camp safely. Program will include practice setting up tents and learning the Leave No Trace Principals. For more information, call (928) 754-1005 ext. 7101.

Lake Mead Birthday Celebration, Oct 8

Join rangers at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 12:30 p.m., Oct. 8 for birthday cake to celebrate 55 years since the establishment of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Rangers will share information about the diverse recreation opportunities in the park. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

WON Bass Fishing Tournament – US Open Oct 14-16

Around 500 Anglers with 250 boats will be participating in the WON Bass Fishing Tournament at Callville Bay Marina Oct. 14-16. For more information on this permitted event, visit http://www.wonbass.com.

BBSC Pumpkinman Triathlon, Oct 26
