Phase 1 Opening in Nevada Begins Saturday, May 9th

Phase 1 Reopening Begins

Governor Sisolak made this announcement today at 3pm, that because of the work that has been accomplished by staying home over these past 2 months, that Nevada is now in Phase 1, and that some businesses will be allowed to open, or partially open on Saturday, May 9th.

UPDATE: HERE IS AN ARTICLE WITH A DOWNLOADABLE COPY OF ALL PHASE 1 GUIDELINES.

Restaurants will be able to allow diners inside their doors, but with some major restrictions. So are some retailers, car dealerships and outdoor shopping malls. Best of all, hair salons can reopen! But there will be restrictions:

  • ALL employers shall require ALL employees to wear masks, in all industries when exposed to the public
  • Restaurants will require ALL diners to make reservations in advance
  • No bar seating will be allowed, sit down restaurant service only
  • The numbers of diners will be restricted to 50% of capacity

He says that still closed will be gyms, yoga/dance studios, casinos and bars or taverns that do not serve food will remain closed. All county, state and local offices (the DMV) remain closed.

The Governor also emphasizes that the general public should still be encouraged to wear masks in enclosed spaces at all times.

Also, gatherings with more than 10 people are not allowed, anywhere. He asks, begs in fact, that Nevadans celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday at a virtual distance, and not have large family gatherings that will put loved ones, especially older ones, at risk.

The Governor emphasizes that vulnerable populations should still minimize contact with the outside world and stay home. Staying at home and isolating human contact he says is still the best preventative against the spread of COVID-19. He also says that any County that feels like they are not ready for this to be enacted, they can make their own determinations. This current order is in force through May 30th, but if case numbers increase again and if the state starts to see numbers that they are not satisfied are safe, then this could potentially change.

It’s up to us as individuals, to decide what is best for ourselves and our families how much we go out and re-engage in more ‘normal’ activities. Wherever you are, let’s play nice and be respectful.
