Ragtown Tattoo Moves to New Location
Chris Unger made history when he opened his shop, Ragtown Tattoo, here in 2016. His is the first tattoo shop in Boulder City! The business name is a nod to historic Boulder City. It was the name for a squatter's camp located near Black Canyon for workers building Hoover Dam. The shop has an eclectic vibe – laid back and vintage, but with a modern appeal. It's a clean, professional neighborhood shop with three tattooers on staff: there's Chris, of course, and he's joined by James "Cornfed" Singer and Steve "Scuba" Iwinski. If Steve looks familiar, it's probably because he's a graduate of Boulder City High School!
Chris has been in the tattoo business for more than 20 years. He previously owned a shop in Las Vegas for two decades. a fluke brought him to Boulder City. He had grown up in a small town and he had visited Boulder City on a few occasions. On one such trip, he happened to see a "for rent" sign on Wyoming Street and opened his first location. Later on, he moved his shop out to Boulder Plaza on the highway, but he has recently moved just down the street from his original location on Wyoming Street. The shop is located at 1244 Wyoming Street.
Intimidation is not an issue at this shop. The staff are friendly and helpful. The shop sparkles and has a very professional look. Customers can trust they will have a safe, clean, and fun tattooing experience. Ragtown Tattoo is licensed and regulated by the State of Nevada, Clark County, City of Boulder City, and the Southern Nevada Health District.
The pandemic was a difficult period for the shop as they had to close the shop for several months until health regulations allowed them to reopen. Reopening was overwhelming, however, with clients excited to have work done after the lockdown.
They've enjoyed a steady stream of clients – a mix of locals, regulars from Vegas, and tourists. The boutique feel of the shop is definitely a drawing point, as are his fellow tattooers, Steve and Cornfed. You can find examples of the men's artistry at their respective Instagram accounts: Chris Unger (HERE), Cornfed (HERE), and Scuba (HERE). The shop also maintains a portfolio HERE. Customers can bring in artwork, or for those who lack those skills, the artists can work with clients to create a unique piece of artwork for their tattoo. The shop specializes in traditional, neo-traditional, black & grey, realism, portrait, and many more styles. They also offer vegan-friendly inks on request.
Appointments can be made by contacting the tattooer via Instagram or by calling the shop at (702) 635-7282. The shop is open by appointment, with some walk-in slots available Tuesday through Saturday, from 11:00AM to 5:00PM. Other times available with the consent of the tattooer.
