Rail Explorers Says Farewell - For Now

We rarely post when a business closes or moves out of town, but this one is an exception. We're sad to share that at least for now, as of Christmas day, that the Rail Explorers will be leaving Boulder City, at least for a little while. The last tour will be tomorrow at 8pm so you can have one more dose of Christmas Cheer on the rails!

The business initially opened back in early 2018 for the winter and early spring seasons only, and then became full-time back in 2019. And then in 2020 of course you have the pandemic. But through it all this 'little engine that could' stayed financially strong and has been a great tourism partner to our local area.

But apparently there are some complications with the State and their lease agreement, so they are going to need to shut down temporarily.

There is a new RFP (Request For Proposal) that has just been created and made public, so they can re-apply to reopen their business in the future which we sincerely hope they will do! However we do hear that two other rail bike companies are also interested - so stay tuned and we'll keep you posted as events develop.

According to Heather Abel, the Western Region General Manager, "We have enjoyed operating in Boulder City for the past five years and we will be actively participating in the RFP process with the state."

I will only just say that these folks have always been great to work with and have been a great asset to our city and the Nevada Southern Railway as well. So we will hope this is just a "farewell" and not a "goodbye".
