On a rainy Thursday, March 11th, a whole pile of business owners and City staff were gathered indoors at Vinny’s Pizzeria (thank goodness he let us in!) to hear about the plans and details of the access road to be built behind the businesses along Boulder City Pkwy. and will function as the access road to the upcoming Railway Museum Visitor Center.
The road will run from Yucca to the BC Pkwy east split, where the Visitor Center will eventually be housed (see slide East) and connects portions of the business corridor with the roadway, parking, and also the Linear Park and biking/hiking trails along the River Loop Trail.
One good piece of news is that the road itself will be well lit, with sidewalks, landscaping and currently planned to contain about 150 parking places. This will be excellent for the employees who work at those businesses and the shops themselves as parking is always an issue.
The purpose of the meeting was to hear feedback from the businesses about their own access points too and from the road. At issue is the fact that the area is not level, so portions will be better suited to steps or road than others. Also a factor is the spacing is tight to say the least.
Fun fact: back in the early days of Boulder City this same area contained a rail track, right about where this road will be built. A few businesses actually placed their locations close to these old rail tracks in order to make it easy for them to off-load goods for their stores right off the line. But now of course, this means they are butted right up against the State property line that all the railway museum sits on.
Currently, they estimate that this project will begin around nine months from now, late next fall, and take about six total months to complete. We know the business owners present were eager to take in the specifics about their locations and give that desired feedback to the LGA Architects and City staff. When the final revisions are done, we’ll be sure to share those with you, and we are so looking forward to seeing another phase of this project to get underway!
