Ribbon Cutting at Hemenway Park
State, county, and local officials were on hand this morning for the Hemenway Park ribbon cutting. They were joined by City Manager, Taylour Tedder, city department heads and members of the public.
Hemenway Park, dedicated in 1984 is home to the famous bighorn sheep who frequent the park for food, water, and relaxation. The city had previously applied for grant funding in 2020 for new signage, a walking trail, the Ram Cam, and more, but the request was denied. When Clark County Commissioner (now chair) Jim Gibson learned the news, he proposed and obtained approval from the Clark County Commission for an interlocal agreement of $175,000 for the improvements to the park.
Invited to speak at the ceremony included Douglas Nielsen, Conservation Education Supervisor from the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Jim Gibson, Chairman of the Clark County Board of Commissioners, and Joe Hardy, Mayor of Boulder City. At the conclusion of their prepared remarks, the assembled group was asked to line up behind the red ribbon for the ceremony.
Here is a map of the new walking trails at the park. Remember that off leash dogs are not permitted at Hemenway Park or its trails.
