Tuesday, August 6 is National Root Beer Float Day! We have this day circled on our calendar so we don’t forget to stop by our local A&W Restaurant for the delicious treat. A&W Restaurant is located at 1410 Boulder City Parkway. This special event takes place between 2:00PM and 8:00PM so be sure to stop by and grab a small float and maybe a few other goodies as well!
Did you know our A&W Restaurant is one of only three standalone locations in Nevada? The others are located up north, in Tonopah and Sparks. Commercial root beer was created in 1875 and was originally called root tea. The pharmacist who created it, Charles Hires, changed the name to root beer to appeal to miners. It was marketed as an alternative to alcohol and sold as a powder!
Root beer is a traditional beverage that usually contains ingredients like sassafras root, birch bark, ginger, licorice, and cinnamon, along with added carbonation to give it a fizzy kick. We don’t know who came up with the idea to add ice cream to make a float, but we are thankful they did!
