Shop Small in Boulder City

Small Business Saturday Boulder City, Nevada

You don’t need me to tell you it’s been a tough year. But it’s been an even wilder ride for our local businesses and restaurant owners. I’ll quote our good friend Todd Cook of the Brew Pub when he told me one time, “This year has been like trying to build an airplane and fly it all at the same time!”

So here’s the thing – most of you already know and totally buy into the importance of supporting our small Boulder City businesses. Our Historic Downtown would look much different without that essential business core of shops and restaurants. Small Business Saturday, most of you know was started over a decade ago, as a counter to ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Cyber Monday’ over the Thanksgiving weekend. A way to remind people to shop locally and not just online and for big-box store deals.

But there’s another looming truth – we know that COVID-19 cases are on the rise again, and that the Governor has said he will make an announcement next Tuesday. We do not know what form a potential shut-down or partial roll-back might look like. No one appears to have any info on that at all, (as of this publication time).

So to that I say, Small Business Saturday should begin this weekend! Or now – today even! Mind you, we need to be respectful, distanced and masked while we shop. If you’re in a high-risk category, then please take care of yourself. But, maybe call that local retailer and see if you can arrange to have something bagged and ready to go? Or ask a friend or neighbor to pick something up for you! And remember all of our local eateries are still offering take-out food so you can still order out and reduce your exposure.

Let’s work together to help our local businesses have a strong Holiday Season even with all of these challenges. I know we all shop online, it’s hard to avoid. But whatever we can buy locally, let’s please band together and do what we can!

And in case you need the extra boost, the Mayor, Kiernan McManus has signed a Proclamation for Small Business Saturday in Boulder City. See below:
