Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog, has predicted six more weeks of winter. We aren’t sure how that will affect Nevada, as we’ve had quite a mild winter as far as it goes, but we’re already thinking of spring!
Spring is the perfect time to spruce up our yards and beautify our landscapes. Well, the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has a helpful tool to help you select gorgeous plants that look great and are drought tolerant as well. You can look up plants by characteristics, down to the color of the flower (if it’s a flowering plant). Just check off your criteria in the Find Plants tool and it should return a number of options to choose.
Whether you have a green thumb or not, the plant finder tool takes a lot of the guesswork out of figuring out what grows in the desert. This is important when you’re planning your plants, because it will save you money in the long run. No more money wasted on plants that don’t do well! You can even save your plants to a list and email it to take with you to the nursery.
We think this is a fantastic way to learn more about gardening in the Mojave Desert!
