‘The Boneyard’ on the Railroad Tunnel Trail

It’s Fan Photo time again…Fan Vincent Gomez shot these images of the “Equipment Boneyard” on the Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail and sent them in for me to share with you. Thanks, Vincent!

The last year the railroad tunnels were in use was 1961 and per the National Park Service’s website, are the only remaining sections of the Hoover Dam Railroad system that are not highly disturbed or under water.

All of the tunnels are approximately 300 feet in length and 25 ft in diameter…intentionally oversized to fit penstock sections and large equipment being transported to Hoover Dam. Yep – the stuff in the Boneyard looks pretty darn large!
