I’ve waited a few days to share this news in hopes that I’d have ACTUAL news to share — but sadly, I don’t. And since my poor email in-box is begging me for relief — I figure I’ll post what I know and tell you what I don’t.
On Wednesday afternoon, a fan messaged me that paper had gone up in the windows of Scratch House, along with signs that said they were permanently closed (see photo 1 below).
By this morning (Saturday, 12/5), the paper had been replaced by boards and No Trespassing signs. The signs, lights and yes, even the rooftop whisk have all been removed and their website and Facebook page have been deleted from the Internet. So I feel it’s fairly safe to conclude that Scratch House has closed.
Several fans have emailed that they heard from contractors on the Browder Building (formerly Mel’s Diner and future home of Atomic Tacos and an art gallery) that construction has been halted and naturally, there is widespread concern that the building will remain in its partially-completed state, but I believe that we’ll just need to wait and see at this point, as there’s been no official comment from the owner on either Scratch House or the Browder Building project.
Sorry – I wish I had the ‘scoop’ to give you – but this is all I know, I’m afraid!
