Have you heard of the ROMEO’s? That acronym stands for Really Old Men Eating Out, and we were thrilled to have the honor of being an invited guest to one of their gatherings this past Tuesday!
This informal group of generally ‘seasoned’ gentlemen have been meeting each Tuesday for breakfast at the Boulder Dam Hotel restaurant for the past 25 years.
The two original founders created the group simply to have the opportunity to get to better know the members of the City Council, and learn more about important matters happening in Boulder City. There are no dues to the club, no structure, per say. Each week they have an invited guest to come and chat with them about their areas of expertise or knowledge – and those guests can be women as well as men. They also take occasional ‘field trips’ to areas of interest. For example, they went on a tour of the Fisher Space Pen facility and have another planned soon to visit Zappos in Las Vegas.
The organization is a fraternal one, which they don’t apologize for, nor wish to see changed at present time. (Ladies, there’s a group for us in town, the Women Supporting Women, if you’re interested…) They tell me there are many such other ROMEO clubs around the US, and one that this club was based on is in Chelsea, MA. They are not political or religious, nor affiliated with any other organization and they are not lobbying for any cause. They are just literally, some really nice, smart and intelligent men who like to hang out, ask questions, and learn about things happening in Boulder City.
You’ll notice in the photo above, one younger face in the mix, that of Aaron Medo, (he owns BC Electric we told you about a few weeks ago HERE), and we asked him how he felt about being the ‘token’ younger member of the group. He said he loves coming to the meetings, as he learns so much and appreciates the wisdom and fellowship of those older friends.
To join, you indeed must be a gentleman, and need only an invite to come to breakfast from an existing member.
Personally, I enjoyed my experience with them very much, and found the entire group to be a wonderful mix of ideas, experiences, questions and filled with curiosity about a wide variety of topics. We’re glad your our ROMEO’s, and I’ll hope to be invited back again someday!
