Need transportation? The Silver Rider is still running in town, as part of the essential services that are provided by the Southern Nevada Transit Coalition (website HERE). But did you know – despite the name ‘Silver’ that you don’t need to be a senior citizen to use their services? That’s right – anyone of any age can use this method of transportation within Boulder City! The cost is only $2 each way for your trip.
But how is this working right now, in this COVID-19 era, you may ask? Is it safe to use?
We got on the phone with the Executive Director, Mike Jackson to find out what precautions they have taken to make sure that those who need these services can still take advantage of them and feel safe doing so.
Mike tells us, that they reacted immediately as the coronavirus concerns were still very fresh, before most of us were taking this seriously, and he purchased hospital grade disinfectant – a lot of it! Each and every bus is cleaned and disinfected every single night. Drivers also have the same stuff with them and are instructed to wipe down all common areas of the bus at least every 3 hours or more, in between passengers.
The drivers are all masked and behind plexi glass for their protection. Also they blocked off the seats so that social distancing is now simply handled by that spacing. What normally would hold 14 passengers, now the buses have 4 available seats all at safe distances apart.
Rides within Boulder City are available Monday-Friday 7:30am – 7:30pm, Saturday, 10am – 6pm, and Sunday 10am – 3pm. You can be taken anywhere in Boulder City within it’s outermost boundaries, from Railroad Pass transit center on one end, to the Hoover Dam Lodge (currently closed) on the other.
They prefer 24 hours notice before planning your trip, although depending upon the day, you can call and get scheduled as quickly as only an hour in advance, should an unplanned need arise. Call 702-894-4190 to schedule a pickup.
One day a week, each Wednesday, they are still taking passengers who have essential medical appointments in Henderson. Hours for that service are from 7am – 3pm to and from medical appointments ONLY. 24 hours advance reservations are required.
For those who need these services, we’re glad they’re still rolling here in Boulder City!
