Well, I have quite a tail tale for you today! And it’s not a feel-good one … it’s a FEEL-GREAT ONE!
Sadly, it begins with a 1-2 year old kitten being hit by a car on Avenue G near 8th Street last week and the driver didn’t stop (so let’s assume he/she didn’t know). A good citizen called it in and due to the extent of her injuries (abdominal wall hernia and a badly shattered rear leg), Boulder City Animal Control Officers (Ann & AJ) hustled her to Boulder City Animal Hospital to see if she could be saved.
Thankfully, it seems those BCAH vets and staff developed a stubborn streak about saving her, so while Animal Control has searched for the owner this past week, Dr. Barton gave her the tummy-tuck she needed and then actually rebuilt her leg (there was initial concern it would have to be amputated).
Now, I’m a practical gal and had to ask who was going to pay for the medical care – especially if the owners didn’t come forward. I’ve seen the comments from fans of Boulder City Paws ‘n’ Claws asking to donate to help cover the cost … but even I know surgery this extensive is expensive. At that point though, the operating theory between Boulder City Animal Hospital and Boulder City Animal Control was that “we’ll work something out”.
Enter an AMAZING Boulder City resident & Paws ‘n’ Claws fan (whose identity I wish I knew) with a $500 donation that he or she dropped off at the animal hospital to help cover the costs to treat our little kitty. And with that kind act, Dr. Stanton not only waived the rest of the treatment costs to date – but all future treatment costs.
And well, that makes sense because as the owners never came forward in the required 5-day time period, the adoption papers were signed this very morning and our little kitty has a new home pushing paperwork (or sleeping on it) as the new Clinic Cat at Boulder City Animal Hospital. Check out how our little kitty is looking today in the picture above with her new boss, Robin (but who do you think is really gonna be the boss in time)?
What did I tell you? A pretty awesome way to start the month, I’d say. BUT, I called to ask if “Our Little Kitty” had a name yet and she does NOT! BCAH just posted on their Facebook page (located HERE) that everyone can help remedy that – so if you’re feelin’ the love, pop on over there and give their page a LIKE then help suggest a name for her. And the next time you’re at their office, snap a photo of her and post it on Paws ‘n’ Claws so we can have a community update on her, too!
