Well, here it is – the day that we’ve known would come and have been waiting for – later this afternoon traffic will gradually open on the new 15 mile stretch of freeway now known as I-11.
Today at 11am dignitaries from all over the state and the community will gather for the ribbon cutting. Southbound lanes will then open for traffic first, according to the Department of Transportation, and then the northbound lanes are scheduled to open in the early afternoon.

There’s been a lot of speculation about what will happen to our local businesses in the area. Some are optimistic and can’t wait for the heavy influx of pass-through traffic of cars and trucks to be reduced and out of the way, so that locals can more easily patronize their businesses. Others are more fearful that the reduced traffic will depress revenue for businesses, especially those on the Boulder City Parkway corridor. The days of speculating are over – and now we’ll all see what happens. Personally, we’re just going to try to support all of our local businesses and shop our local eateries and gift stores as much as we possibly can. We’ll see you around town!
