Necessity is often the mother of invention, as the saying goes and we’ve seen that over and over again with the many new entrepreneurs we’ve interviewed since the pandemic began. In this case though, being a mother of seven children during the lockdown meant invention was a necessity! Meet Tracey Reid, the owner of Tracey’s Tasty Treats!
Recently remarried and with the seven children at home for several months, Tracey had to come up with a business plan that utilized her skills as a baker, while also working with the needs of her family. Her children attend five different schools and have the normal kid things going on so she needed a work-from-home profession that offered a great deal of flexibility as well. And Tracey’s Tasty Treats was born.
Tracey’s cottage business offers all sorts of deliciousness, from cookies to brownies to pies to cheesecakes to cupcakes. Her speciality is custom sugar cookies for different events like baby showers, weddings, holidays, birthdays, and the like. She’s been in business for about a year now and has developed a menu to include gluten free, sugar free, and vegan options as well.
Tracey learned the art of baking primarily from her mother, although her grandmother had some influence as well as a Home Economics teacher. She would often come home on the weekends and bake treats for her father, which he loved. But she considered herself a “recreational baker” until COVID-19 hit, when she realized she could turn her hobby into a lucrative business.
All items are baked to order and orders can be placed on her website HERE. She offers discounts for professional educators, health care workers, first responders, and military members. All you have to do to place a treat order is look at her menu, select your sweets, and pay online. She even offers special treats for our canine and feline family members! If you have a special request, just ask and she may be able to accommodate
She needs approximately 48 hours lead team on custom sugar cookies and at least 24 hours for her amazing cheesecakes. She has a commercial oven in her house so that helps with production and the turn around is pretty quick. She is planning on canning pie filling for those holiday pies so clients can bake their own pies, but with her filling. She will also have special DIY cookie kits for the holidays, which would be a fun activity to do with kids
Tracey is a graduate of Chaparral High School in Las Vegas and has lived here her entire life. She is married to Bryan Reid, who is an Emergency Room Charge Nurse at University Medical Center. As we mentioned earlier, their blended family also has seven children! You can meet Tracey and Bryan at the upcoming Art in the Park event where she will have a booth.
Everything Tracey bakes, she bakes from scratch. This includes the icings for her various treats. She makes buttercream icing, cream cheese icing, and offers fresh whipped cream for her pies. You’ll want to get your orders in soon for Thanksgiving and Christmas because they really aren’t that far off!
