A few folks have sent me messages asking if I know why the trees were removed along Veterans’ Memorial Drive and indeed, I do! Here is a note that came out in a memo from the City a few weeks back:
Several entities in Clark County are experiencing infestation of borers in the trees we maintain. Boulder City is no different in that regard. The tree species hit the hardest by this borer is the whitethorn acacia. These trees look a lot like the common Mesquite tree. Numerous trees along Veterans Memorial Drive show serious signs of decay from the insect. Other acacia trees throughout the City are experiencing the same problem. Unfortunately, the only feasible maintenance strategy is removal. As funding allows, Public Works will be replanting many trees this fall, when temperatures cool.
So there ya go…all the news that’s fit to print!
