This Saturday, January 13th at 1pm at the Two Wheels Pub join Calvin Olsen (with his mom Christi, pictured above) for a fundraising event to benefit the Boulder City Animal Shelter.
This 11 year-old has dedicated 3 of his last 4 birthday’s to charitable causes, and we must say, we’re duly impressed with this young man and his family!
He says the idea came from a few Christmas’s ago when he and his two older brothers had enjoyed an especially good ‘haul’ of gifts, when Calvin’s grandmother remarked how lucky they all were and reminded him to appreciate that not everyone is so blessed.
Calvin took that to heart, and starting that year for his 8th birthday, he created his first charitable event for his birthday!
When we asked him what his goals were, he said simply, “To make people happier, and the town better, and to bring attention to the needs of the animals at the Boulder City Shelter.”
So, what’s happening? Here’s the scoop…
Come by and enjoy some drinks and food, and most importantly, bring any of the following items to help support the animal shelter:
- Purina kitten and cat chow
- Toys for both dogs and cats
- Paper towels, bleach, laundry detergent,
- Non-clumping cat litter/ poop scoops
- Blankets, towels, and carriers
- Petsmart/Petco/Grocery store/Amazon gift cards
There’s raffle prize drawings as well! But check the entry fee on that – one roll of paper towels is your cost to enter the drawing for prizes!
Both Christi and Calvin wanted to be sure to thank all these folks who helped them out with this event: Milo’s Inn and Cellar for the Two Wheels Pub venue at 538 Nevada Way, (on the corner of Wyoming and Nevada Way) donated at no charge, Albertson’s for the food, Snap Fitness, Pawsatively Grooming, 3D Wallflowers, Fisher Space Pen, and Pro Source Promos of Las Vegas.
We also hear that The Helpful Hoodlums of Las Vegas might be on hand too…
