Join rangers at the Cottonwood Cove Lower Campground Amphitheater at 8:30 p.m. Aug 12 and share the experience of the Perseid Meteor Shower. The park’s night skies make a perfect place to watch for shooting stars. Bring a chair or blanket as well as water. For those who plan to stay overnight in the campground, come early to setup a tent. Ranger Hike: Starry, Starry Night, Aug 19
Join a ranger and learn about the dark skies of Lake Mead National Recreation area Aug. 19. Explore the Historic Railroad Trail tunnels while strolling along this old railroad bed. Ranger Program: Solar Eclipse Viewing, Aug 21
August 21, the first total solar eclipse in the continental United States in 38 years will occur. The solar eclipse will be visible across the United States. Join a ranger to view the partial eclipse between 9 a.m. and noon at the Lake Mead Visitor Center. A solar telescope and solar eclipse glasses will be available in the outdoor plaza area for visitors to view the partial eclipse. For more information, call 702-293-8990. Fee-Free Day, Aug 25
Entrance fees will be waived at Lake Mead National Recreation Area Aug. 25 in celebration of the National Park Service’s birthday. Fees for camping, lake use or use of concessions still apply.
