We recently checked in with Dr Christopher MacMahon, Director of the Nevada Railroad Museum, Boulder City. We wanted to find out about how construction was going at the museum site. Here is what he told us:
“The Visitor Center continues to make progress and is on track for substantial completion in late April. As residents likely have seen, the visitor center structure has now taken shape, and work has begun on the new passenger loading platform as well. In the coming weeks, crews will be finishing the concrete work on the building’s exterior, installing the roofing, and beginning to set tile in the building’s restrooms. We will begin laying new sections of track to the passenger loading platform in December. In the new year, crews will complete interior finishes while finalizing all the concrete work for the passenger loading platform and welcome plaza. A communications antenna will be erected in partnership with the Nevada System of Higher Education, and in spring the parking lot will be paved and drought tolerant landscaping installed.
Once construction is complete, we will move on to exhibit installation which is anticipated to take approximately 3 months. We anticipate opening the welcome plaza, visitor center, and passenger loading platform sometime in Fall 2026. Because the Legislature only approved a part-time 19-hour per week employee to assist the public, we anticipate that the Visitor Center will only be open on weekends as we will lack the requisite staffing to be open daily.”
We also found out that the Boulder City North Pole Express Train is sold out for this season, but there is still time to get tickets for the 24th Annual Santa Train that runs Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday, November 29 until Sunday, December 21. It’s recommended that tickets be purchased in advance as this activity also tends to sell out each weekend. The cost is just $12 per rider and tickets may be purchased from their website HERE.
In other exciting news at the Railroad Museum, rail bikes are available Monday through Friday at 1:00PM, 3:00PM, and 6:00PM! Come check them out soon!
