Residents of the Veterans Home of Southern Nevada will be treated to some special events today to honor their service to our country. Beginning with an opening ceremony, in which Mayor Kiernan McManus is the featured speaker, the festivities will continue with a community vehicle parade through the porte-cochère in front of the facility at 9:00AM. Residents are encouraged to decorate their vehicles, play patriotic music, etc as they pass in front of the home’s residents who will be safely positioned to watch from a distance. Later in the day, the residents will enjoy a meal catered by Panda Express here in Boulder City.
We also have some very exciting news to share about Memorial Day 2022! The Boulder City Sunrise Rotary is sponsoring and installation of the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall from May 26, 2022 to May 31, 2022. The Moving Wall is a half-scale replica of the monument located in Washington DC. The idea of a mobile exhibit was the brainchild of Mr. John Devitt.
The community is invited to volunteer to set up and and take down the installation. Volunteers will also be needed to assist visitors in finding loved ones’ names on the wall and also to provide 24-hour security while the exhibit is in place. Individual volunteers, as well as community groups, are invited to assist. This event is expected to bring thousands of visitors to Boulder City during the installation period.
Boulder City Sunrise Rotary would like your help: time, talents and financial resources are all required. Please contact either Cynthia Anderson HERE or Rotary President, Dawn Green HERE with your contact information. We are so excited for this event!
