How fun would it be one of the judges for the Best Dam Barbecue Challenge on Memorial Day Weekend?
Judges come from all over the country to pick the winners of $10,000 in prize money…what a blast. However, each year, the Rotary Club of Boulder City co-hosts a training class for NEW judges one evening just before the event.
Attending the 4-hour class can get you certified as a KCBS (Kansas City Barbeque Society) judge and then you are qualified to judge any KCBS contest across the country. The class fee is $100 and includes a membership to KCBS.
I’ve heard from this year’s judging coordinator that there are a few judging slots left for this coming year…but they’re going fast – so you’ll want to get your application in soon. And even if all of the slots fill up, qualification as a judge allows you entry into the top-secret judging area where you can still participate and help with the process. Then you’ll be pre-qualified for next year!
For more information on becoming a KCBS certified judge, visit the Best Dam Barbecue’s website and specifically, the page on Judging Information located here.
