In case you haven’t wandered by this area, there is the new retaining wall being built on the land that used to contain the old Hospital building. Certainly, the destruction of that building we know is a contentious issue, and we don’t know exactly what is planned for this location. But the owner of the land is in the process of putting up these rock retaining walls, and the process involved in that is simply fascinating! So, we had one of our super-secret reporter friends shoot some video that we thought you’d all like to see!
It’s sort of this intricate ballet between the two earth movers. Part Tetris, part construction, one wonders how they figure out which boulders should go where…
They literaly toss the rocks about as they gather them into a pile.
Then they put them in place, and add the filler dirt and gravel, and then they carefully tap the boulders into place.
We don’t know how many days this work will continue, but if you’re in the area around Avenue I and Park Street/Park Place, then stop and take a gander at this process.
