Serene Temple and Lily Flores have been friends for more than 20 years. They’ve also been in the tattoo industry for a while, so when Serene decided to open her own studio, it was only natural that she would ask Lily to join her. Together, they’ve created a beautiful space, full of whimsy and playfulness inside their studio, conveniently – but mysteriously – located on the top (third) floor of their building, above Your Mom’s Italian Restaurant at 704 Nevada Way.
Both are artists first, tattoo professionals second, and the studio reflects this. Walk in and you’re immediately transported to a magical garden filled with vibrant flowers and a burst of bright color everywhere. Serene and Lily emphasized that they really love Boulder City for its devotion to art, the public kind, which you see displayed throughout the city – especially downtown. The views from the patio are incredible and the vibes inside are warm and welcoming.
The studio has actually been open since March and here’s where the name comes in: they’ve done no real advertising. Clients often come to them by word of mouth resulting from previous clients. As we mentioned, the location is somewhat obscure, but the reputation is not. They do beautiful work. Collaborating with clients on tattoo design is an important part of the experience offered at They Say Tattoo Studio.
Art is very important at They Say. Both women mentioned that being able to work on art has made them more creative in their “real jobs” as tattooists. They have hosted an art show for dozens of local artisans which was well-attended. They plan to hold more sessions in the future! They have also connected with local schools to hopefully provide special art instruction in the future. They want to emphasize that art can certainly be a career, as they have proven.
Both Serene and Lily are able to do black and gray, as well as full color art for your body. Consultations include image selection and placement suggestions for the work. Private sessions are available, especially if it’s your first time and you’re nervous about the process. The studio has a relaxed and comfortable aesthetic and Lily and Serene are great at making clients comfortable.
