We’ve heard lots of questions from you all out there, about what’s going on at the former Von’s, soon to be the home of the new business in town, Medolac.
(If you’re in the dark, see our previous post on that HERE)
Well, first off we’ve had the pleasure of meeting the members of this talented family-owned business, and chatted quickly with Chairman and CEO, Elena Medo.
She emphasizes that overall the building was in very good shape when they took it over, with no signs of insects or rodents and the only issue needing to be addressed was the pigeon population up on the roof.
As you can imagine though, the inside areas need to be revamped into a clean and pristine environment for them to do the processing on their products. So they are working on a series of small renovations along the way, one of which is addressing some asbestos that was in parts of the flooring, involving only a small layer below the floor tiling.
Elena says, “the Safeway Corp. has been great throughout he process, and has been very responsive to our needs in preparing the building for business.”
We’ve actually never seen the process of asbestos removal, and the contractor in charge was willing to give us a quick tour. So in the above photo you’ll see one section of the flooring that is in process of that removal, and one that’s finished. (OK we know that doesn’t look very glamorous, but progress is progress!)
He tells us they are working through the weekends to get this done.
The opening date will be announced shortly, Elena says. In the meantime though, they will be hiring soon! Any interested applicants should prepare a resume with work history, education, professional/personal aspirations and references to info@medolac.com.
We’ll keep you posted on their progress!
