What’s Happening at the Library in December

The Boulder City Library is bustling in December with all sorts of activities! Check out the listing below and find some fun things to do this December.

The library will be closed in December on the following days and times:

  • Wednesday, December 24 in observance of Christmas Eve
  • Thursday, December 25 in observance of Christmas Day
  • Wednesday, December 31 closing at 5:00PM in observance of New Year’s Eve

Be sure to sign up for the Winter Reading Program, Unwrap a Good Book, beginning Friday, December 5th. You can register at Beanstalk by clicking HERE.

Ages 0-5 Programs

  • Tuesdays at 10:30AM Toddler Tuesday Storytime: Ages 1-3 and Caregiver. Join us for stories, songs, And a craft or activity. Board Room.
  • Fridays at 10:30AM Drop In Storytime: Ages 0-5 and Caregiver. Join us for stories, songs, and crafts. Board Room.
  • Thursdays at 9:30AM Early Risers Lapsit Storytime: Ages 0-2 and Caregiver. Join us for stories, songs, and play. Board Room.
  • Wednesday, December 3 at 11:30AM UNR Extension- Family Storyteller- First Steps to Writing: This one hour workshop promotes family literacy and school readiness skills. Families participate in parent-child reading and hands-on activities. Ages 3-5. Sign-ups required. Board Room.
  • Wednesday,  December 10 at 11:30AM UNR Extension- Family Storyteller-Fun with Non-Fiction : This one hour workshop promotes family literacy and school readiness skills. Families participate in parent-child reading and hands-on activities. Ages 3-5.Sign-ups required. Board Room.

Ages 6-11 Programs

  • Wednesdays 12/3 & 12/17 at 3:30PM Youth Coding Club: Explore coding through hands-on activities, STEAM Kits, and online computer coding programs. Ages 6-11. Community Room.

Ages 12-18 Programs

  • School Days at 2:00PM Teen Time: Coloring, puzzles, board games, or crafts while you hang out with your friends. Teen Area.
  • Mondays at 3:00PM Roleplayers Guild- Play Dungeons & Dragons. Ages 12-18. Nevada Room.

Family Programs

  • Sunday, December 14 at 1:00OPM Flashback to 1995 Movie- Jumanji (PG): Join us for an afternoon showing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of it’s release. All Ages. Community Room.
  • Tuesdays, 12/9 & 12/23 at 3:30PM Lego & Duplo Building Club: We provide the Legos & Duplo, you provide the imagination! Duplo available for kids ages 0-5 to build. Lego available for kids ages 6-11 to build. Bring the family for some creative fun! Parents/caregivers please attend for the duration of the program. Community Room.
  • Monday, December 22 at 1:00PM Winter Wonderland Craft & Movie: Join us to celebrate the winter holiday season by making various crafts and enjoying a showing of the movie “Happy Feet” (PG). Community Room.
  • Wednesday, December 31 at 11:00AM Noon Year’s Eve Party: Join us for some New Year’s fun for the kids- celebrate with crafts, activities, music, and a countdown at noon to ring in the new year! Community Room.

All Ages Programs

  • Sunday, December 7 at 2:00PM Holiday Origami: Festive Folding Fun! Join us to make a gift or holiday decoration. No supplies needed. Ages 8+. Community Room.
  • Tuesday, December 9 at 10:00AM Dam Roast House Coffee Pop-Up: Get your morning going with some delicious beverages prepared by Dam Roast House! Library Lobby.
  • Wednesday, December 10 at 6:30PM Puzzle Exchange: Bring a puzzle, take a puzzle! Complete puzzles only please! All Ages. Community Room.
  • Saturday, December 13 at 1:00PM Believe in the Magic of Christmas with Duffy Hudson: Straight from the North Pole, Duffy the Magic Elf will perform mind boggling feats of magic for kids and adults alike! All Ages. Combined Community and Board Rooms.
  • Saturday, December 13 at 3:00PM Duffy Hudson Presents- A Christmas Carol: Join us as Broadway and film actor Duffy Hudson, without the aid of props or costumes while playing all 30 characters, brings this magical tale to life.
  • All Ages. Combined Community and Board Rooms.
  • Sunday, December 28 at 2:00PM Singing in the Stacks Library Karaoke: From Country to Christmas, Metal to Musicals, Rock to reggae, Opera to Oldies, join us and sing your favorite songs. No experience needed. Beginners are Welcome! No registration required. Ages 8+. Combined Community & Board Rooms.

  • Mondays 12/1, 12/8, 12/15, & 12/29 at 1:00PM Easy Does It Yoga Ages 18+. Community Room.

  • Monday, December 1 at 11:00AM Ancestry Club: Learn from others as you research your family history. All Ages. Board room.
  • Wednesday, December 3 at 6:30PM Dam Book Club: Join us to discuss “Winter Garden” by Kristin Hannah. To obtain a copy of the book, see Jessie. Meet at Big T’s Cantina
  • Saturday, December 6 at 1:00PM UV Resin Keychains: Come join us to learn how to use UV resin to craft your own Keychain. Sign-ups required. Community Room.
  • Monday, December 8 at 5:00PM Flashback to 1995 Movie- GoldenEye (PG-13): Come join us for a showing to celebrate the 30th anniversary. Ages 18+. Community Room.

  • Wednesday, December 10 at 11:30AM Becca’s Book Club Ages 18+. Community Room.
  • Tuesday, December 16 at 6:00PM Come Write In- Creative Writing: Creative writing prompts and activities to generate new writing. All skill levels welcome. Community Room.
  • Wednesday, December 17 at 6:00PM Library Board of Trustees Meeting. Board Room.
  • Thursday, December 18 at 6:00PM Crochet Skills Class- Stitch TBD: Monthly crochet project class- learn a new stitch and meet other crocheters. Some crochet experience required. Class runs 6:00PM to 7:30PM Community Room.
  • Friday, December 19 at 2:00PM Holiday Gift-Sugar Scrub Craft: Learn how to make salt and sugar scrubs for holiday gifts. Ages 16+. Community Room.
  • Saturday, December 20 at 2:00PM How Not To Burn Toast- Holiday Breakfast: We’ll go over some recipes to make your holiday mornings sweet and savory! Community room.
  • Sunday, December 21 at 2:00PM Fiber Arts Club: Learn from others and work on your projects with friends. Ages 16+. Community Room.

Makerspace Programs

  • Weekly Makerspace Times: Space is LIMITED, machines are first come, first serve.
  • Tuesdays 5:00PM – 7:00PM Open Maker Time: Must be certified on the machines you intend to use. Makerspace.
  • Wednesdays 2:00PM – 4:00PM Open Maker Time: Must be certified on the machines you intend to use. Makerspace.

Tech Teachers

Tech Teacher APPOINTMENTS are available! To sign-up for a one-on-one time, please visit the information desk or call the library at 702-293-1281. Exclusions for tech teacher include, but are not limited to: device repairs, device set-up, same day appointments, over the phone appointments, and/or multiple same week appointments. Tech Teachers are available on Wednesdays 12:00PM and 1:00PM and Thursdays 12:00PM and 1:00PM.
