Cory Gorman, of No Worries Pool Care has a few words of advice for those who own pools about how to properly give your home pool the care it needs. We reached out to him and here is what he has to share with you.
As an experienced pool care professional, I get asked about winter pool care. Do we winterize here in southern Nevada? Is there anything you should change with your system? Run time? Run schedule? Well, that all depends on your system. There are some minor changes for all pool systems when it starts cooling off, yes, which I’ll explain shortly.I’ve noticed a lot of swimming pool owners tend to let go of their Pool Care company through the winter. Or they tend to neglect their pools, once it starts cooling off. Well… Where we live, our winter is very mild. Which means, that your pool still needs just as much attention and care, even though you aren’t using it! Pool care is year around here in Boulder City, and Southern Nevada! And if you don’t keep up with your pool maintenance, you’ll end up paying for later.
Winterization for most pools in our climate is minimal. We change the run schedule for the pump and filtration, to insure there’s water moving during the coldest part of the day. But there are some things that you do winterize, if you have certain equipment.
If you have a saltwater system, there are changes to be made. A saltwater chlorinator will stop producing chlorine once the water goes below a certain temperature. Which is different with different brands of chlorinators. We usually switch to normal pool chemistry through winter. And sometimes, your current pool water is too saturated with salt, and does need to be drained and filled.
Solar Heating systems are another piece of equipment that does need to be winterized. A very important thing to do, if you have a solar heating system. These systems are installed on your roof, and there’s hundreds of tiny little black plastic lines that the water runs through. These lines are extremely susceptible to freezing and bursting. Then you have free flowing water on the roof of your house. Many issues can arise from this, including water damage to your home! There’s a process your supposed to go through to clear out the water in those lines. I fully understand all of these processes, and I’m always happy to help! Especially my Boulder City community.
As I said, I’m happy to help! I do this because I understand the many different complicated aspects of pool care. It’s very interesting to me, and even after 13 years of pool experience, there are still things that I’m learning. The learning never ends in this profession, and I Love it!
