Women Supporting Women in Boulder City

Women Supporting Women Boulder City, NV

Have you heard of the Women Supporting Women networking and friends group in Boulder City? Well, if you’re female, then you might want to check them out!

About 6 years ago (give or take a few months) local Dawn Walker decided that what she needed and wanted more of in her life, was simply to have friends! Let’s face it; most of us have work, volunteer and family obligations that take up most of our time. Combine that fast paced life with all of the other stuff we need to do, and we find that taking some time just for ourselves, to relax and enjoy life – it’s harder than it used to be.

So Dawn reached out to Jane Mollison, Chelsea Scheppmann, Mary Smalley and started just a small monthly lunch group. But then it became obvious that they needed to move it to evenings to make it easier for ladies to come.

So now, each and every month on the second Monday at 5pm, sometimes as many as 50-60 ladies all meet up to chat, have fun, eat, drink and share resources and enjoy each other’s company.

There’s only one rule – “No Drama!” says Dawn. It’s important to note that while it is a networking group, this isn’t about business networking. Certainly, some ladies have jobs or services and share what they do. But many are retired, and the theme of these events really is all about fun, meeting people and gaining new friendships. Also, there’s no age limit – all are welcome whether you’re in your 20’s and beyond!

When you ask the women why this group has become so special to them, the word you hear over and over again is, connection. For some ladies who have heavy obligations at home (like caregivers, for example), this group can end up being their only social outlet.

Other satellite groups have grown out of these meetings based around common interests or other activities for fun and fellowship. There have also been volunteer efforts spontaneously created – clean up projects for a lady who needed help at her home, contributing eyeglasses for the local Lions Club, and other good deeds.

Dyanah Musgrave joined the group early in its first year and emphasizes that you don’t need to feel obligated to buy any food or drink to come. The events are generally free and you can participate as much or as little as you wish. A fairly recent newcomer who just moved to town is Chris Ritoli, who learned about the event at the Chamber of Commerce when she met Dyanah. Another recent person is Barb Muller, who met Dawn Walker on one of her Honor Flight trips back in Washington DC. She and her husband were looking for a small town to relocate to, and Boulder City fit their needs. So for her, this group became an instant help to meet women friends and find local resources.

This month’s event will be June 10th at 5pm at the Railroad Pass DeSimone Steakhouse. Purchase of food or drink is not required, however they will have a buffet for $15, and tickets in advance are recommended. You can do that at this link here!
