A few weeks ago a group of active and involved citizens got a special treat with a tour of the Historic Water Treatment Plant (located at 300 Railroad Avenue). The building is and always has been one of our most treasured and is one that the City has tried to preserve with care, even thought it remains not open to the public. A few years ago it received a grant to rehabilitate the roof.
The tour from a few weeks ago was provided by Deputy City Manager and Community Development Director, Michael Mays. It came about due to public interest from a group of citizens that meet each Tuesday at 9am informally, with City Councilwoman, Denise Ashurst. There has been an ongoing gathering that all are invited to weekly at the Boulder City Company Store (525 Avenue B).
The interior of the building is being refurbished as part of an ongoing project from the City to have the building in a suitable condition where it can be made open to the public to tour on a limited basis. The purpose of the tour was simply to update those with interest in the project. A tour of the building was also available this past May for the City’s annual Historic Preservation Day. As this rehabilitation project for this building continues to move forward, we’ll try to get you another update on their progress soon!
